Provincial Collaboration

Through local, regional and provincial collaboration, Better at Home identifies better ways to integrate Better at Home services with existing support services for seniors within the spectrum of care, including medical, non-medical, and social services.

Better at Home’s approach to collaboration includes the following actions and deliverables:

  • develop a set of recommendations for an integrated approach and continuum of services to support the ultimate goals of Better at Home.  The recommendations emerge from consultation with provincial- and community-level stakeholders regarding ways to strengthen integration within the seniors sector
  • build linkages with other seniors programs and services – including the health authorities – ensuring that Better at Home is better integrated into the existing network
  • investigate ways to strengthen the seniors sector, while preventing duplication, and improve identification of seniors’ needs for services that support them to remain independent and connected to community

Sector Collaboration

Partners in sector collaboration include:

Seniors Active Aging

United Way of the Lower Mainland and Active Aging BC have partnered to keep older adults active as they age. 30 “Seniors Active Aging” grants were distributed across BC in 27 communities. Programs range from connecting First Nations elders to community recreation in Prince George, to intercultural Tai Chi in Surrey, to a men’s shed initiative in Squamish.

Raising the Profile Project

The Raising the Profile Project (RPP) is a new provincial network whose goal is to highlight the key role played by non-profit and municipal community-based seniors’ services in supporting seniors to build new social connections, remain physically and mentally active, and retain their independence for as long as possible.  Reports include:

  1. South Vancouver Island & Islands (meeting location: Victoria)
  2. Mid to North Vancouver Island and Islands (meeting location: Nanaimo)
  3. Okanagan, Kamloops and Shuswap areas (meeting location: Kelowna)
